Sports earphones:Swimbuds sport waterproof earphones review

Nov 22,2023 | David

Swimbuds waterproof earphones are waterproof wired earphones specifically designed for water sports. They can be used in the shower as well. Since these earphones are wired, you will need to either bring your smartphone in the shower with you (provided it is waterproof) or use a Bluetooth receiver, which may not be very practical for most people. One of the best features of these earphones is their comfort. Despite its wired design, it features 7 different ear tips for effectively sealing your ears against water. So what is the actual experience of this earphone? This article collects some real reviews from users for reference.

“The Sport are the best pair to own. I've owned the others from Underwater Audio and I prefer these. The sound and base is awesome in the pool. If it had not been for meeting Scott Walker at IDEA World many years ago, I would not have known about these or his awesome company. Thank you Scott for dipping my iPod shuffle back then, I'm still using it. I see you and your Dad made the tablet. I'll probably get it eventually. LOL! I wish you and your company the best!

My only recommendation is I think that the "differences" of assembly of the headphones should be in the description for all of your headphones. Assembly meaning that the cord and headphone attachment is way more secure with the sport than the basic pair. They will last longer. It's worth the money.”

“I had the regular Swimbuds, which were the best waterproof earbuds I've had. However, they would frequently get water in my ear and even fall out when taking breaths (I tried using petroleum jelly in the ear as most suggested but it didn't work as well as mentioned). I stumbled onto these and the silicone attachments that go into the folds in your ear make a HUGE difference! They no longer come out and for the most part keep the water out. Don't get me wrong - water will still creep in but not enough to muffle the sound of the music, and they're pretty comfortable. The sound quality is just as good as the Swimbuds - not great but as good as you can get for this category of earbuds.

My waterproof iPod shuffle also stopped working within a few months and customer service was great at replacing since it was still within the warranty period. I would highly recommend this SPORT version of the earbuds, and other Underwater Audio products as they have proven to be quality, with great customer service.”

“I've been using this headphone model for over 2 years now. I swim every day [except for major holiday pool closures] and average 30 miles per week [more product info at google: andy swims!]. They come with a wide selection of tips, to ensure a comfortable fit -- although I use only the "christmas tree" style soft silicone ones. No problem keeping comfort and a good seal for 7500 yards [300 laps]. Sound quality is fine; I listen to everything from podcasts to Jazz/Classical etc. When I workout on the gym floor/machines, I've used them with my waterproofed ipod shuffle, as a backup for my Apple earpods, using the extension wire provided.

Important note: the FIT GOO that is included with the headphones [and sold separately at Amazon] is most helpful in creating/maintaining a good seal. It just takes a tiny amount of the fit goo, and this ensures a continuous good fit/seal -- and avoids having to reseal or make adjustments. Life expectancy for the headphones has been typically about 1200 miles; then the wires begin to stiffen. I'm going to contact the vendor re the stiffening, to see if that is considered wear and tear or covered by warranty. Another important note: ALWAYS thoroughly rinse your swim gear after every swim; it definitely extends product life for headphones, mp3 players/iPods, goggles, snorkels etc!

In short, highly recommended! Swimming is a huge part of my life; it helps kill my cancer cells, so reliable products are a mainstay in my swimming. See above google reference for more info on swimming/cancer and why aerobic exercise is so important. I'll post an update after I check in with the mfg re the wires.”

“I bought some Swimbuds SPORT Waterproof Headphones since the buds that came with my Aerb 4G Waterproof MP3 Music Player did not give a good seal. The Swimbuds come with like 8 different tips and after a bit of experimentation I found the ones that worked (for me it was the blue ones). What an amazing experience, crystal clear audio under water! They have a nice full sound, too. When swimming I could still hear the splashing but it didnt really interfere that badly. They stayed in even when I was doing pretty aggressive freestyle, with no leaks. And when I was swimming underwater it was so trippy, like being in a movie LOL. I think I kind of overdid it with the laps though, I will be one stiff puppy tomorrow!”

“Fantastic sound! I use along with Underwater Audio iPod nano (also a great product...bummer it's no longer being made). Bought in September. The set was stolen from my suitcase on the way home from vacation beginning of December. Bit the bullet and bought another Underwater Audio iPod nano. This time it didn't come with a $15 coupon for the Sport so I tried the headphones that came with it... not nearly as good. I tried using the extra earbuds from the stolen phones (still have 9 pairs) but the hole in the buds is too small. Couldn't find replacement for just the phones (without the buds) so spent another $75 (with tax) for the phones plus buds. Will be keeping in my carry-on in future trips.”

“I had purchased an Audioflood IPod for swimming, which is fantastic, but I could not keep the ear buds that came with it sufficiently seated in my ear for more than 2 laps. Frustrated, I bought theses Swimbud Sports because they had multiple options for fitting your ear. I put on a pair that fit well, and they work great. I rarely have to adjust them while swimming laps and their sound quality in the water is really excellent!! I highly recommend music while swimming, and these earbuds.”

“I love my Underwater Audio iPod Shuffle and Swimbuds Sport headphones for making laps in the pool so much more fun & helping the time go by more quickly. I use the Sport headphones both in the pool and when I am working out to protect against sweat or other water damage. I like all of the earbuds, but personally the fins (underwater) and the ergos buds are my favorite fits. Although I am still getting used to how to wear them with the least amount of water interference, any water in my ears during flip turns generally rights itself quickly, and I don't have to fuss with them much.”

“Sound quality is pretty good, but the wire is starting to separate from the left earbud and I've only had them for about 8 weeks or so. I swim almost daily and I always put these back in the case they came with after each swim, so I've emailed the company for a replacement. We'll see what they say.”

“If I could give this product 10 out of 5 stars, I would. I am just starting to get back into lap swimming and having music has been "instrumental" to my enjoyment of the sport! (I have to love this pun!) It's not just that the sound is good (because it is - it's great!); it's not because it's completely waterproof (because, yes, it totally is!); it's not even because of the cool carrying case and all of the accessories that it came with (but that's all true, too). It's because the customer support is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. I use the ipod/swim sport headphones 4-5 times a week and have had some trouble fitting the earbuds in. NOTE: This is a problem that I have with regular Apple headphones - so I did anticipate having some trouble and ordered the pack with a lot of options. Anyway, while I could get the headphones to stay in for a while, they were not staying in always. I would have just lived with that because, well, as I said - I have that problem with all headphones. However, I took a leap of faith (and sucked up my pride) and contacted Underwater Audio to ask for any secret advice they might have. They did give me a link to a helpful video - thank you! - but because my problem was so unique, they have helped me fix the entire problem by changing out my purchased set for a completely different set. I am beside myself with gratitude. The customer service is AMAZING. Thank you for a wonderful product and a wonderful experience.”

“I have been swimming laps while listening to music from my waterproof iPod for many years.

I needed new earphones, and ordered Swimbuds Sport Premium Waterproof Headphones from Amazon.

I returned them today; for these reasons, among others:

  1. There are 11 pairs of earbud tips, but NO INSTRUCTIONS as to how to use the ones that are different from ordinary tips. Further, some require a left and right placement but the stamps for R & L are so small that it nearly requires a magnifying glass to read them.

  2. Although advertised as having “optimized sound” I did not find it so and will stick to my Audioflood earphones which are much less expensive and do not have cords that flap all over the place until strapped down.

  3. The earbuds are bulky and stick out of the ears a great deal. Not comfortable. I’m not recommending these.”

Judging from the reviews of the above users, Swimbuds sport waterproof earphone is well received by sports lover. But there is no perfect earphone in the world, and its shortcomings are also obvious. It is a wired earphone, which has  limitations and inconvenience when use in sports. There are many waterproof headphones in the market, and you can find the more practical, functional substitutes, such as Wissonly Hi Runner bone conduction headphone.

r/HeyNewGadget - Sports earphones:Swimbuds sport waterproof earphones review

The first element of swimming headphones is undoubtedly its waterproof rating. Although the name of Wissonly Hi Runner is Hi Runner, it is surprising that it has IPX8 waterproof rating higher than the industry standard, which can make it work normally when swimming and diving. Swimmers can also clean their headphones after soiling them, making the next experience better! And when you use Bluetooth mode while swimming, the connection may be poor and the sound will be intermittent.Don't worry,Hi Runner equipped with 32G built-in storage, which can store 5000 songs, and supports two working modes of Bluetooth and MP3. In the scene of underwater sports or without a mobile phone, you can completely use it as a Bluetooth MP3 player. In addition, its battery life is very strong, it can be used continuously for 10 hours, and it supports magnetic fast charging, which takes only 2 hours to fully charge.

The Wissonly Hi Runner features an adjustable aerospace-grade titanium frame that can accommodate different head sizes and also works well with swimming glasses and swimming caps, ensuring a stable fit. The headphone surface is made of high-tech, low-sensitivity silicone material, free from any chemical components, to avoid allergic reactions. The overall feel of the headphones is as smooth as a baby's skin, preventing discomfort during extended wear. Moreover, weighing less than 30g, they are lightweight and won't feel burdensome.

Wissonly products have strong performance and good quality. As early as 10 years ago, Wissonly's team began to research headphones that do not hurt the ear, and introduced bone conduction technology into the field of headphones. So this is a brand you can trust.
