“Working out can get boring. Especially in the pool. So I got the excellent Waterproof iPod Shuffle, which works just like it should. It comes with headphones, but having tried about 10 types of audiophile, sport and "waterproof" earbuds with my dry iPods, I took the advice of Amazon raters and went with the expensive-but-you're-worth-it Swimbuds SPORT Waterproof Headphones. I use the smallest cones, and they fit, stay in, and sound great. It's a shame to have all those unnecessary ear buds, but maybe my ears might grow and I can use them when I'm bigger. Not. Or I could find some other Swimbuds SPORT Waterproof Headphone users and we could trade. But if you workout, you know you need to be able to JUST DO IT. So spring for these, pick the ones that work, and go out and have fun!”

“Context: I swim laps; a mile a week. Using this with the H2O audio Ipod mini underwater case (which has lasted me over 5 years). Comparing this to the Surge earphones from H2O audio, because the Surge headphones were the best ones I was previously aware of. I have done about 5 miles in the swimbuds so far.

First the con: If you compare this on land to the Surge headphones or the the Apple earphones you will notice the lack of bass. So I had low expectations in the water.

HOWEVER - I found this is barely noticeable in the water.

* Using the tree seal option, the seal was flawless. The phones never leak and do not come out. (I loop the wire through my goggle strap) Better than the Surge phones which occasionally popped out (every other workout or so). This is important because keeping a dry air chamber between your eardrum and the phone is critical.

* The Swimbuds sounded great and were consistently great - no matter if I was on the surface, or down a couple feet - in contrast to the surges whose performance changed with depth.

* I didn't have to crank the volume up as much as with the Surge phones.

So overall they are a winner and I will see how long they last (the Surge phones typically lasted 200 miles after which they grew crackly or the wire developed an open near the plug end)

Possible improvements:

- The extension cord is about a foot too long if you keep the music player in your back trunks- had to roll up the extra cord.

- Bass and speaker quality can be improved

- going with larger gauge springier wire is always a good idea to prevent the opens connections caused from flexing.

Generally, these are the best I have found and I expect them to last a while.”

“I had initial troubles with the stock water headphones that came with the waterfi ipod. Even taping and using vaseline to try and get a better seal didn't help.

The Swimbuds work amazing! I've used them ~30 times for prolonged workouts (45 minutes+). I was worried about flip turns and sprints, but these stayed in place perfectly!

My setup: I first wipe a tiny amount of vaseline around the edge of the ear canal. This is to get an improved seal around the headphones. I then put my goggles on in the locker room, and clip the ipod to the straps. I insert each earbud by lightly pulling my ear back, and pushing until the earbud is snug. After both are in, I do a quick check on sound for each earbud. Sometimes you can insert a bit too far or have things not aligned quite right. After adjusting, I just secure the cord to the goggle straps and off I go!

I've never had the headphones leak with this method.

While these are pricey, they WORK! I would highly recommend these to any serious swimmer who wants to listen to media during a workout.

I've gone through 3 audiobooks with these and they prevent water sloshing noises very well.

One note: They prevent outside audio so well that there is no way you'll hear someone talking to you, so just be aware!”

“If your workouts are 200% more powerful when listening to music- then this is a must! laps swam unnoticed- I am not exaggerating! goes hand in hand with my Syryn waterproof mp3. 3 important tips: #1. don't be lazy, and take the 60 seconds after you finish your laps to shake the buds of excess water. remove the ear insert attachment (gently!) and shake holding the headphone between 2 middle fingers. (relevant instructions from the manual are above ). #2. don't shy away from the gel that comes in the package. I skipped this and cannot quite understand why now that I use it every time. it keeps the headphones tight and the music can surround you underwater. #3. this is quite a delicate device -cords and all. this is probably why the product comes with a really nice case -zipper closed. use it so you can keep listening for a lomg time.”

“It seems to work for some swimmers at my gym's pool, but I had a horrible, aggravating experience with these. I swim freestyle aggressively for a workout. These buds kept being silenced by the water intrusion. The sound quality was all treble and no bass. They could not fit in my ears securely even with all different earpieces. Those are all like flimsy pieces of skin. Everything about it and the iPod was small, thin, and extremely difficult handle like attaching to my goggles or holding it between my fingers. I immediately returned them after one day of use. These buds really angered me. Please head my warning!!”

“These headphones are awesome! I had a different pair that came with my waterproof audio player, but they leaked and interfered with the music. These headphones stay in snugly even when I do flip turns and provide great sound quality. They come with different ear pieces so that you can choose the size and style that works best for you. I often have problems with finding earbuds that stay in...so I was worried that this would be yet another pair of headphones that would not work...but I was surprised to find that the "in ear" silicone bud fit snugly and very comfortably in my odd sized ear. The headphones are effective as my earplugs were and allow me to listen to stereo quality music to pass the time durning my workouts. After stuggling with leaking headphones for so long, I finally tried these and am so glad I did. This is an excellent product that I would highly recommend to anyone who loves music while they swim.”

“I use the tree buds and it stays on during flip turns. About 8 months after my purchase, the ipod mini stopped charging. I contacted them, and to my surprise, in 3 days, I received the replacement. Then one side of the ear phones stopped working, I decided to buy a whole new set since I figured, no harm having backup buds. 3 days of the week, I am doing solo lap swims for at least an hour and a half. The music definitely helps and with the right music, it pumps up my workout. I was the only one using it at the gym pool, but now I see everybody using it.”

“Pros - look forward to workouts and the headphones actually act as earplugs for those sensitive to swimming in the colder water; workouts go by quickly; many different headphone attachments to play with to find the perfect fit; minor issue with iPod and the customer service was fantastic

Cons - the lifeguard will give you impatient looks because you won't want to get out of the pool at closing time!

These headphones are great! Have only had them a few weeks, but so far I love them.”

“These earbuds are excellent. i've tried a lot of products to make my swim workouts-- between 45 and 75 minutes-- a musical experience. these buds do it. many choices of sizes and styles, so you're bound to find one that works for you. the ones that i use-- the smallest tree style-- fit well into the ear so there's very little drag to pull them out while you're doing laps. well wort it.”

“This comes with a variety of earbud covers but none of them fit onto the earbuds. The opening is much too small to fit over the earbuds, so you can't change them. This means not only are you stuck with the medium "tree" style that come with the earbuds, once they fall off or wear out you can't replace them or change the size, so the product is essentially worthless.”

However, It must be connected to an audio device to play the audio you want to listen to, even if you use it while swimming, because it is wired type. Therefore, too much equipment leads to being too bulky when doing swim workouts. If you expect to find a waterproof headphone that is more comfortable to wear, more easy to use and has more powerful functions, Wissonly Hi Runner bone conduction headphone is recommended.
