“First, I bought the Bose, but the first pair’s left ear soon died. Send them back and reordered them. The second pair developed the same problem. Sound quality and noise cancellation were superb. Next, I bought the new Sony earbuds which had a great conversation feature — if you talk, they shut down for a bit. The sound quality was almost up to the Bose, but they would not stay in my ears while I sat at my desk. I changed earbuds and bought silicone ones, but they still fell out too easily. Finally, after reading tech recommendations in the NY Times, I bought the JBL earbuds, which didn’t have the sound quality or the intense noise cancellation of the Bose or Sony but stayed in my ears while I ran. If Bose gets their act together, those are great. If you plan to use your earbuds during exercise, the JBLs are the best.”

“I bought these to replace my Bose Soundsports (the wired together kind) which stopped working and also fell out of my ears when I got really sweaty.

I use these on my exercise bike almost every day and I have had zero problems with them — they stay in snugly no matter how sweaty my workout gets. The sound is good for what I needed — I’d say my Bose ones sounded slightly better at first but I don’t notice any difference anymore. No issues with Bluetooth connections to my iphone or ipad. Good sport headphones!

UPDATE: Still really like these — one small issue is getting the headphones to turn off/charge in the case — sometimes I have to jiggle them around and I wish they were auto off once out of ears. But for the price I still think they’re a good value”

“I’m comparing these earbuds against my Pixel A buds which cost about $50 less. For the extra money these pack a lot of nice features, but where they miss is they don’t sound as good as the Pixel buds. There’s plenty of bass, but the higher notes seem missing. However, everyone’s perception of sound is a little different so you may like these. There is definitely plenty to like: active noise cancellation, pairing with 2 devices at once, IP68 water resistance, very customizable fit (ear tips and fins) so it stays in place, and a helpful app to test your seal and adjust audio. A great secondary set or maybe for exercising though.”

“I really really wanted to like these. I truly love JBL as a brand and most of their products are fantastic. But these are truly God awful. They don’t fit in the ear comfortably (yes I tried all sizes of wings and ear bud). The headphones also fall out constantly without any movement. I’d be sitting at my desk doing work and the left one would literally just pop out of my ear. I couldn’t wear them for more than 20 minutes without getting a headache because they are so uncomfy.

Moreover, the connection to my laptop is extremely poor. The sound on zoom calls was static-y and I was missing every fourth or fifth word that my client said.

Honestly, I rarely review things, but this was such an extreme let down I decided to write a review.”

“Despite what TheWireCutter claims I can’t recommend these for using while running, or possible any other activity involving quick, repetitive movements. Beyond that, they are decent-sounding, noise-cancelling earbuds I see myself using day-to-day. Read on for me.

I got these after reading TheWireCutter’s recommendation on headphones for runners. These were going to replace my several-years-old corded headphones. I’ve been leery of using earbuds that lack external retention for running and it appears my concern is valid. These come with three differently-sized earbuds and wings designed so you can tailor the fit to your ears. However, I could not find a combination that would stay in my ears while running. I’m not a competition runner but it is my primary form of exercise and I run at an aggressive pace for several miles at a time. Within a 1/4 mile I found myself fiddling with both sides to keep them in my ears and have had them fall out multiple times. For that alone I can’t recommend these for running. Maybe slower jogging or walking. Sound-wise, these are pretty decent for their type and the noise-cancelling and pass-through options work fairly well. Also, unlike others the touch functions work well being both response but not overly sensitive.

Bottom-line: I think these are decent day-to-day headphones that I’ll keep for use while working or travelling but I cannot recommend them for more strenuous exercise.”

“Jbl does not stand by product, NOT FOR EXERCISE!Overall the headphones work pretty well with some glitches turning on and off, but overall ok. The problem is that the ear buds do not stay in and CANNOT BE USED AS ADVERTISED. OK sitting in my house, otherwise useless. JBL has an app that helps you pick the right attachment and confirms if the fit is secure or not. Even using this, I had an ear bud fall out while outdoors into a body of water while on a walk. They’re useless if they don’t stay in your ears, unfortunately. JBL customer service was no help. Disappointing as I love my JBL speaker, but will move on to another brand.”

“My initial impressions of these earbuds were positive. They were easy to pair and it comes with 3 pairs of wingtips and 3 pairs of tips. The charging case works as expected and has a nice green carrying strap, something I do not have on any other pairs of earbuds that I own. I wish more manufacturers would include one of these as it’s quite handy. Shaking it around vigorously by the lanyard, I wasn’t able to get the case to pop open.

After pairing, I attempted to insert the earbuds into my ears and they kept popping out. I thought to myself that perhaps the pre-installed tips were just too big for my ears. Never-the-less, I eventually got them to fit by pushing them in harder. I started listening to a few songs and was incredibly impressed by the sound. Accurate bass without sounding muddy, and very crisp and clear highs. Most other pairs of earbuds I have struggle with rock or metal, but not these. They’re honestly some of the best earbuds I’ve ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot of them. The ANC is OK. Not great, but not bad.

After listening to a few songs, I removed the earbuds. They automatically paused my music thanks to the proximity sensors. I changed the ear tips with smaller ones to see if it would help the fitment issue, and sadly those also liked to pop out and also completely ruined the sound. There was no longer any bass and the ANC was even worse. I tried the smaller wing tips and that seemed to help a little, but not fully eliminate the fitment issue. I put the medium sized tips back on and the sound returned. Once I got used to inserting these with more force and getting them to stay, I am impressed and could recommend them. However, if using these in workout or exercise I could see them coming out easily. These odd fitment issues are why I’m removing a star. These are otherwise perfect for me.”

“I purchased JBL Reflect aero TWS based on 2 things.

1) sound quality

2) design — fins to provide a better grip and stabilize earphones

Battery life I did not expect much since it is worse than on my previous earphones set even as per advertised 8h earphones and 16h case (total of 24h). No. Earphones definitely not 8h even with ANC off. When taken out of the case earphones are never 100% full. One of the earphones if constantly more charged than the other. But this is a minor and acceptable issue I could live with. Case never provides with additional 16h. Even with the ANC off and the case charges, the battery life is shorter than advertised.

1) Sound quality. Good. For this price range very good. ANC does the great job.

2) Design is nice, build quality seems ok. Overall, the design is interesting and they are nice looking pair of earphones with a nice case. One of the main selling point of this set are the provided “powerfins for secure fit”. No. Just no. Fit is everything but secure. Earphones are flying out of the ear even without any movement. If not inserted correctly, the fins actually act like a spring and can launch the earphone. All 3 sizes of fins are failing (at least for me) to provide the secure fit. Today I went out on a windy day and the wind actually managed to blow one of them out.

To wrap up- definitely decent pair of earphones (especially with the reduced price) but not to be used in exercise, or, God forbid, during jogging. Good for listening to the music during the easy walks or talks during the casual strolles.”
