Headphones for workout:Jabra elite active 65t review

Nov 29,2023 | David

Regarding Jabra, I believe everyone is familiar with it. It is an audio product brand from Denmark. Jabra’s Elite Active 65t headphones adopt the design concept of fitting the ear canal, without too much emphasis on the compactness of headphones, but with great care in the most critical wearing feeling and operation. The whole machine meets IPX56 dust-proof and waterproof standards, and it is no problem to wear even during daily workout, and the sweat generated will not affect the headphones. So,are they performance well during workout?Only people who have used it know. Therefore, this article collects some real user reviews to answer that.

“These head phones don’t sound the best but for the price it’s a good value. Unfortunately, the silicone ear inserts are not that good inevitably causing them fall out during my workouts (at least one side does). And, that is a big problem because one side fell out in the middle of a set today at the gym and I could not find it. It seemed to disappear!!! Had half the gym looking around the floor for it and we just couldn’t find it. I was sure it fell in a crack somewhere and I probably would never retrieve it. Finished my workout and then returned for one last look before heading home and behold I found it (YES!!!!). Clearly someone had either stepped on it or dropped a weight on it because it was pretty beat up. Happy I found it but was sure it was fatally damaged. However, once it got home and cleaned it up, to my surprise it works!!! I couldn’t believe it!!! If you could see what it looked like you wouldn’t believe it came back to life (should have taken a picture of it).

Summary — Other more expensive headphones may sound better but, I promise nothing will stand-up to the abuse of the gym the way these do! I’m convinced they will stand the test of time, as long as I don’t lose them first… Can’t give 5 — Stars because the inserts are kinda cheap (which is why I may lose them).”

“These earbuds are pretty good most of the time. By “pretty good” I mean the sound is good, the microphone works well and I’m generally pleased. The problems are these: the left bud often gets disconnected from the right and you have to turn them off and sometimes put them in the recharger to get the left one back; the battery drains faster than advertised; they are OK during workouts but not completely secure- mine fall out about every 20 minutes of aerobic workouts. Keeping track of the recharging box has been an issue of mine; I have already lost one and had to replace it for 80 bucks! I kind of wish these could be wirelessly charged through other means than the box. Still, I think these are good ear buds. I wear them a lot and mostly get along just fine. The price is good and I trust the Jabra brand when it comes to devices like these. From what I can tell, most of the wireless buds have the same kinds of problems as I’ve found with these.”

“Although I have the Bose Soundsport Wireless (not the Truly wireless newer model) I like the idea of these headphones due to their size and the two year “water” warranty as I plan to use these to workout and do yard work. I was slightly skeptical as I tried the Jaybirds in the past and didn’t like the fit and the video/sound sync was off. These resolve ALL those issues and are great. I can’t use the Bose when mowing the yard as they stick way out of my ears and my ear protection doesn’t fit. These fit nicely in the ear with limited protrusions. They sync easily to my phone and computer and I like how the app allows you to change the noise cancellation options. When I have the full cancellation option on I can hear nothing (this has annoyed my wife tremendously when she has tried to talk to me in this mode. There is no video/sound sync issue. The only negative I have is I have sometimes dropped them when putting them in my ear as there is s specific way to do this and they can slip out. But that is more my issues than Jabra’s. I can’t recommend these enough. They certainly don’t look like Q-tips hanging out of your ears.”

“I have an Android phone without a 3.5mm jack for headphones, and this makes it quite a bit of a pain to plug in headphones: I would have to get my headphone case, take out the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter, plug that in, then plug in my headphones and untangle the cables. On top of that, the headphones I owned didn’t sound too great anyway so there wasn’t much of a “payoff”.

I’ve been meaning to buy a pair of wireless earphones but every time I went and looked they were either too expensive, had poor sound quality, or had poor battery life. The Jabra Elite 65t’s seem to put a very good balance to all most of these by having both good sound quality and battery life, although many will find $160 to be a bit of a steep price to pay for any sort of earphones at all. I made the splurge and decided to go with these and so far have not been disappointed.

Two of my favorite features of these earphones are the ability to set passive sound so you can hear people around you through the built-in microphone, which works pretty well, and the ability to EQ your music. At first, listening to these earphones had me pretty let down considering I was enjoying the fit they had in my ears and the neat case they came in. After playing around with the EQ settings (which I recommend to use from my screenshot) it gave them a nice boost in sound clarity, much better sounding than the wired earbuds I have.

While I’ve only tested these earbuds for a few days, I’ve noticed that the battery life is pretty good, even after a few 5–15 minute phone calls while on my job I end up at around 80–85%. Mic quality seems to be okay as well, as I haven’t heard any complaints about my voice sounding poor.

The charging case is also pretty slick and it’s easy to drop the buds into their respective charging spots. I would have preferred for the charging case to be through USB-C as opposed to Micro-USB, but it does its job.

What I thought was going to be a $160 disappointment of a purchase ending in a return, actually evolved into a regret that I hadn’t done it sooner. I really do recommend these earbuds, they’re convenient, sound good, and last a good while.”

“Overall, I think the product sets out what it is supposed to do. It has good sound quality and good phone call quality. It has nice features, such as music/audio stopping when an ear piece is taken out. If you are a man with normal sized ears or a woman with larger ears, then these will fit great and stay in your ears.

However, there are a few things I have struggled with:

- First, these are supposed to stay in the ear by the bulb of the headphones fitting into the “conch” of the ear. This would work well…if my ears were big enough, sure I can kind of stretch my ear to get the conch to hold them, but then the nose/plug of the headphones sit too far into my ear canal and hurt. On top of this the cartilage of the outer part of my ear starts to hurt after 15/20 mins from being stretched which means I cannot even make it through a workout. I am not a small/petite woman, and have an average sized head (& and ears!) for a woman, but I expect these would fit an average sized man’s ears just fine…and in that case, disregard this part. They keep falling out of my ears as I am not willing to endure the pain of fitting it in my ear!

-The case is unnecessarily hard to open, and by the time I am done fighting it, they almost pop and fall out of the case from the force of opening!

-When pressing the buttons on the center for pause/volume/skip, it pushes them uncomfortably into my ear canal, which is already a problem as previously mentioned and makes me afraid that I will hurt my eardrum (might not be a valid concern as I don’t actually know how far in the eardrum is), but uncomfortable regardless!

Overall, great product if the fit works for you, but I will be returning these soon as I don’t think I can endure the pain/uncomfortable of them. Again, I don’t have freakishly small ears so if you have smaller ears or normal-sized woman ears…maybe pick something else!”

“I bought these when my son came home with a pair and I was very impressed with how comfortable they were, the awesome bass, and his report of how secure they were during his strenuous workout. The mic clarity when he called from the headphones sounded like he was on a handset. Now that I have my own I’m even more impressed. I hear absolutely nothing through the noise cancellation, yet when I activate the “Hear Through” feature to hear what’s going on around me, it does not diminish the quality of what I’m listening to at all. Both buds sound as clear as a bell with no static. The EQ on the app let’s me pump up the bass (cuz I like that kind of thing), and it sounds as good as Beats headphones. I have not had any problems with any of the features including “Find My Jabra”. And the case is actually pretty simple to open. These Jabra Elite 65t earbuds are awesome! At some point I may upgrade to the 75t, but for now these are everything I’d hoped for and I highly recommend them. They’re worth every penny.”

“Okay, firstly I would like to say that these earbuds are really amazing. I’m impressed with the build quality and especially the sound quality. I feel like having the sound+ app is crucial to make the sound even better, depending on your preference. They haven’t fallen out of my ear during my workouts and that’s amazing. They feel secure in my ears. Battery life was decent, I have never used them for the 5 hours consecutively so they haven’t died on me yet since I always put them back in the case. The ONLY problem with MY pair is that the left earphone keeps cutting off like every 3 minutes or so. It goes quiet for a quick second and comes back to line. But it makes the static noise as it does, becomes distracting. It also happens when I get into a certain position when laying down, and I tilt my head to the right, the left earbud sounds like a static tv. Might just be defective but not sure how to get in contact with the seller. I’m still giving it a 5 star because I’m pretty sure I just have a defective product, other than that, everything was just amazing.”

“I freakin’ love these earbuds. They are incredibly comfortable and won’t budge during my workouts or runs. These buds tuck nicely into its oval shaped charging case, which stores the pods in between my workouts and keeps them from getting lost. I find that the charging pod case is extremely hard to open. Actually, you have to squeeze and open the case at the same time to lift the lid to get it open. Love the google assistant feature as well. These buds can last 5 hours on their own and then an additional 10 hours if they are charged up in between workouts. ( Much longer than my Apple earpods. )

You can find other less expensive wireless bluetooth earphones, but the alternatives either aren’t sweat resistant for workouts, or don’t fit as well. So overall, they are a very good set to own.”

“I absolutely love this headset. I’ve been using them for a month now and I have no complaints at all. The sound is amazing. To the point when listening to music there are some things in some songs I have never even heard before. The noise cancellation is great but also gives an option to have sound pass through. It’s great options for when you want to sit and really listen to music but also let’s you pass sound through so you can hear around you when driving or whatever. They are very comfortable for me. Now I do have larger ears. I’ve had a couple people with small ears say they are a little to big for their ears but for me they are fantastic. The microphone is top notch. Everyone says I sound so much better with them. To the point a couple people have asked if I got a new phone because I sound so much better with them. The case is great as well. Because of the cases doubling as a rechargeable battery I can go days without having to recharge them. Infact I think it’s been 6 days since I had to recharge the whole unit. I have nothing but praise for them. This is definitely the best headset I have ever owned hands down”

“I really wanted to like these based on all the positive reviews and for the most part I did like them. So far, out of all the earbuds I’ve tried, these had the best call quality which is what i based my purchase on. My biggest thing was that if I was workout and happened to get a call, I could take the call without having to go through steps to turn off Bluetooth to answer the call. So for the call quality checkbox, it’s positive! I’ll sum up my impressions as follows:

PROS:

Great call quality

Great sound quality

Good price for all the features you get

They paired very easily and every time i took them out of the case.

Case was small, compact and inconspicuous like the iPod case

Convenient button on the earbuds to hang-up or answer calls

So-So qualities:

Volume control on buttons was not as smooth. In other words, you had to ensure you held the earbud in your ear (because it’s a little big and awkward) to turn the volume up or down.

Micro USB charging vs. USB-C. This was really not that big of a deal for me since I have numerous cables lying around the house for both. However, given that I have the Galaxy Note 8 which is USB-C, it would’ve been nice to only have to carry around 1 cable.

The different soundscapes were nice. (I used the rainy day a lot for focus and concentration). But I really didn’t have to have that feature embedded in the software because I could’ve downloaded a program to do the same thing.

Active Noise Cancelling — this was okay. When I was in a busy grocery store talking with a friend, they could hear noises in the background but could still hear me fine.

You can use only 1 earbud at a time; however, it can only be the right earbud which is the master. You can’t use the left earbud by itself.

CONS:

No magnets in the case to hold the earbuds securely. This was a big deal for me. You had to be careful when you opened the case because of the possibility of the earbuds popping out of the case. No bueno!

They are a little on the large side and did not securely stay in my ear. I kept getting the feeling that they were slipping out of my ear. Therefore, I had to keep shoving them back in which really sealed my ear like i had pushed earplugs in really deep. Not comfortable at all. And this happened with all the different sizes of buds they had to offer. None of them provided that secure fit over time. I’ve tried less expensive earbuds, like the MPOW which had a real nice fit, but unfortunately the call quality was trash.

If the case was magnetic and the earbuds were made a little more ergonomically to fit in your ear securely, I would have definitely kept these headphones. The other thing is independent earbud use. It would be nice to be able to use the left earbud independent of the right. Hopefully, they can improve on this in the future.”

Most users have given favorable reviews on Jabra elite active 65t Headphones, indicating that it is a good headphone for workout. However, it is not without its shortcomings, such as its in-ear design, which makes it uncomfortable and unstable to wear and the waterproof level is not high enough. Therefore, if you expect to find headphones for the workout with more comfortable wearing experience and higher cost performance in the market, Wissonly Hi Runner sports bone conduction headphone are a good recommendation.

Let you can rest assured in the outdoor running, walking. This kind of open ear design makes you wear it for a long time without discomfort, which is healthier and cleaner.
