Headphones for the gym:Plantronics backbeat pro 2 review

Nov 26,2023 | David

Plantronics is an amazing company, and its products often appear anywhere you can imagine or can't imagine. For example, the M1A2 main battle tank in the United States, NASA's moon landing plan, and even the design of dual 3.5mm earphone interfaces in aviation and the pilot's headset all have the shadow of Plantronics. This brand with a strong military background has released a Plantronics BackBeatPRO 2 headphone with a simple and fashionable style. Is the experience and technology of Plantronics in the industrial field also reflected in this product? Now let's verify it through some real user reviews of this product.

“I've been wanting to replace my Beats Studio Wireless (Gen 2) for a while now, the Beats lasted me over 3 years before the cups started peeling and the charging port became difficult to plug the micro usb cable into (a common problem on anything that requires plug charging). Great headphone brand (well worth the hype), I'm not ripping on Beats, they served me well and were even refurbished when I originally got them.

I stumbled across these Plantronics while searching for other wireless studio style headphones, which had great reviews at cnet and other tech sites. Amazon had them for a great price, so I pulled the trigger and got them. First impressions were to be expected, about the same size as my Beats Studio 2, same sound quality (bear in mind the Beats Stidio 2 were released a few years before these Plantronics), and the Plantronics are even a tad bit lighter than my Beats. I'm very surprised at the sound quality and ANC of these Plantronics BB Pro 2. The noise cancellation certainly beats my old Beats Gen 2. I can hardly hear any ambient noise around me with these Plantronics. They certainly do fine tuning out most of the crappy music played at my Planet Fitness gym. Yes, I wear studio headphones primarily in the gym. We'll see how sweat resistant these are in the months to come. So yeah, the audio quality is fantastic and ANC is good to go.

--------------

Build quality is great but the design isn't the most eye catching or sleek (to me). They're very retro looking, I wouldn't say it's a bad thing, but I like sleek and simple design. The design will grow on you and will probably suit that hipster/retro style look, if you're going for that.

-----------

Very comfortable to wear, fits my big head, however, it automatically pauses when it senses you take them off. A unneeded feature in my opinion. Whenever I'm running, they occasionally pause but then play again right away, thinking I'm taking them off from all the movement. Not a deal breaker, but something to note. Probably my only real negative view on these headphones.

---------

Battery life is phenomenal, they last a long time which is always a plus, wish I had these when I flew to South Korea last year. So A+ on battery life and charge time. Audible voice will tell you how much battery life you have when you turn them on.

----------

So in conclusion well worth the price and quality for less than half the cost of the Big 3 Brands (Apple Beats, Bose, Sony). A few minor cons, but they don't over shadow the plethora of pros these headphones bring to the table.

PROS: Excellent Sound Quality, Great ANC, Great Battery Life, Comfortable, Easy Controls, AMAZING PRICE

Cons: Auto pause feature when you take them off (could be a pro for some), Design isn't to my liking but build quality is great”

“Bought these headphones back in 2018. Zero complaints. The noise-canceling is fantastic (great for airplanes) and the sound quality is superb. I use Spotify and like tinkering with the equalizer; it really shows you the range of these headphones. The inner lining of the ear cushion is finally starting to break apart but I think that's expected after 3-years of daily use for both work and gym use. 5 out of 5 stars.”

“I really like the features and the build quality feels great. The noise canceling worked well and did not produce the uncomfortable pressure like others do. It eliminated background noise like loud AC but not conversations near you.

These headphones are great for people with smaller ears (my wife loved them); unfortunately, I have large ears. The ear-cups are not deep enough for someone who's ears stick out a bit further. They pressed on my ears with too much force and made it uncomfortable to wear for more than 15-20 minutes.I did return these headphones and will continue searching for a more comfy pair.”

“Well, I owned Beats Studio Wireless and recently purchased this (Plantronics Backbeat PRO 2). There is a lot of difference in sound quality. Let's try to explain. If you are a Basshead you definitely have to choose BEATS STUDIO WIRELESS. The bass in these headphones is powerfull but this impacts the other range of sound (medium and high). I mean, if you use it to listen music like hip hop or something with a lot of bass, the Beats are fine. On the other hand if you need a balanced sound where you can hear the details of the music you should choose PLANTRONICS BACKBEAT PRO 2. Speaking of the other features: ANC beats is better (although no for me because I feel that I am submerged in a pool and the pressure isn't comfortable for me). The auto stop / play function does not exist in the beats studio, the OPEN LISTENING does not exist in beats studio, the CONTROL BUTTONS are more friendly in plantronics backbeat pro 2, BATTERY LAST beats studio 12 hours, Plantronics 24 Hour, COMFORT Plantronics is more comfortable) In fact it can rotate 90 degrees making it very comfortable when you put it on your neck, MULTIPOINT CONNECTION does not exist in Beats Studio Wireless. This feature allows you to connect two devices at the same time and switch between one and the other, in addition, if, for example, you are in your computer listening to music and a call come to your phone, the music is paused and you can answer the call, at the end of the call, you just need to play back to the music again. FOLDABLE, Plantronics is not foldable. CASE HARD, Plantronics does not have a hard case, it has a bag (it is sturdy). (I apologize for my spelling mistakes, I'm learning to write in English)”

“I purchased this set after specifically looking for headphones with strong bass. I use them for the gym where I primarily listen to dubstep, rap, and hard rock. These definitely get the job done. The bass is rich but not overpowering. I find the mid and high end to be decent as well resulting in clear audio that doesn't sound muffled. Any bassheads looking for a good pair need look no further.”

“Way more than I was expecting! Incredible sound! Thick, immersive, accurate sound with real bass that isn't exaggerated (or mid bassy sounding like others like a crappy cross over on a sub). I've been a harsh audio critic my whole life.

Awesome range, set it down and walked around 2 walls and across the gym with my phone left behind. The features are nice with open mic ect.

High quality audio files though the aptX and a little tune from the Google music app to tame the mids and these are an incredible piece of music equipment!”

“I did a lot of research into bluetooth noise cancelling headphones and was expecting a lot from these but I kind of feel let down.

The noise cancelling is not great. I'd say it cuts the background noise down by 50%.

I bought these mostly for use at the gym to block out their awful piped music and general noise which is high when it gets busy.

Also I noticed they make a rattling noise when using any cardio machines. I narrowed it down to the volume control.

I had to turn up my old in-ear headphones to ear bleeding volume to blot out all the noise.

They seem kind of heavy when wearing for any length of time.

These headphones do make it so you can have the volume at a low level and listen with out any background noise interfering with your listening enjoyment.

The listening quality seems kind of flat to me across musical genres Metal, Alternative, Reggae, Pop, New Age and World music.

Compared to other Headphones on the market these seem clunky and the black and brown color scheme is awful.

That being said I wasn't willing to spend an extra $150 to get a top of the line pair.

Bottom line okay not great.

“Ok, so to start the package opening and the first looks on this headset were both over satisfying. The material is good and I've had this for one month now, used it on a trip and carry it around in my bag and looks the same.

Bluetooth : conmection have been stable for most of the time, I've had short experiences of lags during my trip when I was walking around SF and shaking my phone and one time near the train in the station, I don't know if that's relevant or not but overall the connection has meet my expectations and reliable.

Sound Quality : to start, before this one I used (and still have) Beyer dynamic tp 51i, now that headset is a pure game winner when it comes to sound quality, I've mever heard anything near that in amy aspect but I got trouble with the cable 2 times so I decided to change to a wireless headset. Now in comparison with that one you can definitely tell the difference but still the aound quality for most of my music genres (jazz, rock, classical) has been satisfying, listening to more contemporary classics and post rocks it will show its differences to tp 51 more clearly (I guess thats because of its slightly lower sound seperating ability) however I would say I'm comparing it to a game winner wired headset and I don't know about other wireless headsets.

Noise Canceling : I usually do not use this feature unless there is an ongoing anoying noise, so I've tried that inside a gym and in streets, it certainly reduces the noises and probably cancel some of them but not all.

Battery Life : I don't how long continously you'll get to use this before you a get chance to charge, butcI believe it would be really hard for anyone to beat that. I mean battery life of this headset is that one feature that makes me feel I've had a good choice between the ones I couldn't decide. It will run a good 24 hour for you, on my usage I usually charge every 4-5 days and it still has some last sources of battery.

One last point, if you live in somwhere with humid weather or warm your eara probably sweat more wearing this, however that's same for ecery over the ear headset.”

“These are an excellent purchase at this price point for Bluetooth headphones. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5 is the connection quality when trying to sync to a computer. My work provided me a Plantronics headset that is almost identical, but more expensive, and that’s honestly what sold me. I still get all the features I love from the Voyager 8200 at a more affordable price for casual use. The sound quality is definitely comparable to the more expensive headset, a huge win, and you have easy pairing and noise cancellation switches. It connected to my phone quickly, and it sounds great. Pause your music using the buttons on the left, while handling incoming calls with the button on the right. The microphone picks me up well, and the noise cancellation really helps outside on windy days or near busy roads. I also love that it includes the dynamic pausing when you remove the headset. Even pulling back one ear will typically be enough for the headset to pause your media. It will also resume when it senses the headset is once again in place. The down side comes when trying to connect via Bluetooth to my computers. When using zoom I often get a weird feedback sound, which isn’t present when I use my galaxy buds or the more expensive PLT 8200. Having it only paired to one device at a time seemed to help with that. The volume control buttons on the headset (left side) are a little wonky as well. I found it much easier to just adjust it on my phone unless I was trying to mute it quickly, and at that point I’d rather just hit the pause button.”

“Bose is 25mm or about an inch deep. The BackBeat PRO 2 hurts and is uncomfortable. The headphones are not deep enough and your ear is pressed against you head. How is your ear supposed to fit in this shallow cavity pool?....see my photos. It is so disappointing because the sound quality is incredible and functions of these headphones are fantastic. I have to return. After an hour, I just can't take the discomfort anymore.

As soon as I took them out of the box and put them on, I thought something was wrong. There is just no way such a highly ranked set of headphones could be this uncomfortable.

If the ear cushion could be replaced with deeper more comfortable replacement, I would love to fix this discomfort problem. Does anyone know if deeper ear cushions can be purchased to replace the ones that come with the headphones?

The sound quality is fantastic. Noise canceling is nice. For my use, its perfect, I like to hear a little bit of background noise.

Overall I really like the BackBeat PRO 2 headset, but I can't wear them for more than an hour. I thought I had solved my need for a new set of headphones, but unfortunately I have to send these back.”

These are some real user reviews of Plantronics backbeat pro 2 headphones. Generally speaking, most users are satisfied with its performance. However, it is not without its shortcomings. Its on-ear design isn't for everyone, the headphones are too bulky and inconvenient to carry and so on.Therefore, if you expect to find a gym headphone with comfortable wearing and suitable for various scenarios,it is recommended that you try the emerging bone conduction technology headphone with zero burden to the ear -Wissonly Hi Runner.

r/HeyNewGadget - Headphones for the gym:Plantronics backbeat pro 2 review

Wissonly's team has been researching headphone products that don't hurt the ear as early as 10 years ago and introduced bone conduction technology into the field of headphones. Their products have powerful performance, high-cost performance, and are very strong in core performances such as sound quality, sound leakage reduction, and waterproof level.

Hi Runner sports bone conduction headphones are open-eared and worn directly on the temples, so your ear canal is completely open, which makes it easy for you to hear the sound of cars and traffic lights outdoors in sports scenes such as running and walking, making you safer to use.

In terms of fit and comfort, the whole frame of Wissonly Hi Runner is made of adjustable aviation grade titanium steel, which can adapt to different sizes of head circumference and ensure the stability of wearing. Its earphone surface is made of high-tech low-sensitivity silicone material, which contains no chemical components to avoid allergic phenomena. The overall touch of the earphone is as silky as baby's skin, avoiding uncomfortable situations when worn for a long time. Moreover, its weight is very light, less than 30g, and it will not feel heavy when worn. After wearing it, I took it off at the end of the run. This Hi Runner didn't let me have any extra adjustment. As the flagship model of outdoor sports of Wissonly brand, it is the most comfortable and cost-effective one among all bone conduction at present.

When you sweat a lot when running or doing other sports, or when it suddenly rains when you run or exercise outdoors, then the waterproof performance of sports headphones is very important. As the flagship model of Wissonly, the waterproof grade of Wissonly Hi Runner Sports Bone Conductivity Headphone reaches IPX8 waterproof grade higher than the industry standard. It allows the wearer to work normally when swimming or diving, not to mention sweat prevention or ordinary waterproof.

It is also equipped with 32G body memory, which can store 5,000 songs, and supports Bluetooth and MP3 working modes. You can use it as a Bluetooth MP3 player for underwater sports or scenes without a mobile phone.

Hi Runner is the flagship product of Wissonly, and its overall function is also the most perfect. In terms of sound quality, this bone conduction earphone uses the latest research results of wissonly laboratory, which increases the vibration area of the vibrator by 35%. At the same time, it also optimizes the sound transmission direction to make the sound more concentrated and the music more spatial, and it has a good performance in both high and low notes.
