Best headpones for workout:Plantronics backbeat pro 2 review

Nov 26,2023 | David

The brand Plantronics may not be familiar to you. In fact, Plantronics is a well-known American voice communication product manufacturer, which was first established in 1961. When the United States landed on the moon for the first time in 1969, the phrase "one small step for individuals, one big step for mankind" was delivered through the communication products provided by Plantronics, and the brand has gained a high reputation in the United States since then. In December 2016, Plantronics' new product BackBeat PRO 2 was officially released to the market. As the latest member of the BackBeat series of wireless stereo products, BackBeat PRO 2 has made many changes in the plug-in, but active noise reduction and long battery life are still the mainstay of this headphone. Today, we will evaluate this BackBeat PRO 2 headset through some real reviews from its users.

“Bought to watch TV during workouts, one of few with option for noise cancelling.I purchased to watch TV while on elliptical. Goal to use noise cancelling to block the noise of the environment and watch TV without blasting volume. Great job for this purpose. I've read other reviews that sound isn't loud enough with TV, but since my goal is to minimize volume I can't comment. A few things I learned: 1) TV does not have bluetooth so I bought a separate transmitter, but since I'm watching Apple devices through the TV their bluetooth connects to headphones so transmitter not needed (my lack of knowledge); 2) Audio delay/lag with picture is not noticeable at all; 3) Earphones are synthetic leather, so I've had to purchase covers to deal with the sweat, this has not compromised function; 4) Earphones rest on the ear, and after about an hour start to make the ear a bit sore.

Overall, best product for what I wanted, and price was reasonable.”

“PROS

------------------------

- Since I'm a graphic designer, the packaging it came in made me happy. It wasn't fancy, but better quality than I expected. :)

- Music: Sound quality is amazing. I've tried out hard rock, orchestral, R&B, rap, indie, KPOP and a few other genres. The instrumentation is clean and clear, base is strong but not overpowering, and it has a good soundstage for a closed-back pair, especially on quieter songs. No distortion at louder volumes (though I haven't turned it up to max for the sake of my eardrums).

- Videos: YouTube on mobile and desktop is perfectly synced between audio and video.

- Gaming: I used them while playing Guild Wars 2 on my dell laptop. There was no latency time even when rapidly using attacks, and I could differentiate sounds coming from behind or in front of my character. Sounds were well balance and going from a quiet ambience to a monster roaring in your ear wasn't painful. 10/10

- The pause-when-removed and put-on-to-resume feature works perfectly and is a nice quick fade in and out of the audio. Just make sure your hair isn't in the way of the sensor when you go to put them back on. It will pause on SoundCloud, YouTube, Spotify, and Zune (for those that still have it). I don't have iTunes so I can't vouch for them, but I would assume this feature also works there.

- When you remove them on a call, it moves it to in-private on your phone. Used them for an hour conference call with no issues. Mic on/off works great and sounds clear.

- I have paired it with 3 devices so far with no issues (smart phone, laptop, work computer).

- Plantronics Hub app has two useful features: Displays hours of battery life left and has location tracking for the headphones (in case stolen or lost). And that's it... just the two features. Functional, but not as expansive as apps offered for other wireless headphones.

- Soft case is well made and has two zipped sections for the headphones and included cables.

- I can walk from the top floor of my house to the bottom floor without loosing signal.

- Very substantial build and are plush and comfortable overall.

- I've used them on and off for a full day for music and calling and still have a calculated 14 hours of battery life left.

CONS

------------------------

- The only noticeable latency is when playing mobile games. It looks to be about a half a second off.

- Standing in front of/near a running microwave causes the sound to break up (I'm not sure if that's normal for a bluetooth device).

- The sound quality noticeably suffers when used on my iHome at work (compared to my phone and dell laptop), and the pause-when-removed feature doesn't work for Spotify or YouTube. Again I did not test on iTunes, so it make work in that instance.

- As far as being over ear, it's a bit of a tight fit. After about 4.5 hours of use at work the cartilage of my ears became a little sore.

- They are on the heavier side, so be careful if you're prone to headaches wearing headbands or hats (like me). Again after about 4.5 hours of use they started becoming uncomfortable.

- Bending halfway forward or back will cause them to slide from the weight (so yoga and some workout routines are a no-go).”

“Ordered these on the recommendation of my audiophile son who understands his mom has hugh expectations of headphones. Having been Plantronics fans since their gaming headphones, I was hoping for greatness, and got it!

I am currently 60% deaf in my left ear awaiting surgery. I need a sensitivity of 90dB+, and many mid price point headphones stop around 80-86dB. These don't disaappoint at 95dB. Most similar headphones in that ballpark cost much more.

The cups are snug, so they don't fall off my head with workout. Super comfortable for long wear. I bought an extra pair just in case!”

“I am now being forced to return these headphones because the earpads are just too shallow. I tried to make them work by trying different positions and lengths, but they are just too painful to wear for more than an hour. Everything else about the headphones are great, but anything that causes physical pain to use is too much.

These will be great for people with small ears that are mostly flat against your head, but otherwise look elsewhere”

“I've had these for two years (I'm sure they're an old version now) and I absolutely love them! I dis a lot of research before buying them and for the price, they cant be beat! I use them when I travel AND when I workout. I just make sure to keep them clean so sweat doesn't ruin them. Highly recommended!”

“Amazing headphones! I wear these while I workout. Cardio, weights HIIT etc. These don't let me down. I love how they fit on my head without squeezing too tight, yet they won't budge while I'm working out. The controls are easy to use and easy to connect to my phone.”

“These headphones are excellent. I recently upgraded to a new phone without a headphone jack, and wanted to find a reliable set of Bluetooth headphones. The material and quality of the design is great. The layout of the buttons just makes sense. There is a button on the whole right side of the set that seems a little too easy to press, but that's my only complaint. Easy to connect, easy to forget you're wearing them, and a nice bag to store them in for travel.

The noise cancelling aspect is amazing to me, though I haven't used noise cancelling headphones in maybe 10 years, so I might be a bit out of touch with the quality. It's probably great on flights to cancel the noise of the engines, but I use it around the house and in the basement simply to remove the noise of the air conditioner running. I've seen some of the cheaper Bluetooth headphones similar to this, and I'm glad I spent the money for the quality I got. Maybe not the best for workout or exercise with, but I knew I wanted some that work for various situations, and these do that.”

“I love these so much. I have owned many pairs of Bluetooth over ear headphones and these are my favorite by far. They have great sound canceling and for the price absolutely amazing sound quality. They are extremely comfortable, can’t believe they fit my giant head. My only complaint is there is to much bass. You can adjust er to make it better but for me it’s just a little overwhelming but not enough to make me dislike them or return them. At the end of the day for the price you can’t go wrong.”

“The headphones are comfortable. The cushions are soft and cozy. They don't slip however they can get sweaty during workout. One interesting feature I learned, the open mic is very sensitive. I could hear people having a conversation in another room. The only downside is that sometimes when I'm on the phone the mic picks up too much of my surroundings.”

“Sound is good enough for the price range, battery is pretty decent. Got these after my Sennheiser broke after 5 years of heavy use so I picked up these. If you are planning to use these heavily every day I'd actually recommend find something more comfortable. Never had an issue with headphone comfort, never had a pair that even remotely hurts my ears.

Something about these pushes against your ears and after a couple of hours you just have to take them off because they hurt your ears so much. Not the sound that is hurting your ear, the ear muffs press against your ear and they are definitely noticeable. Never even considered that headphones could even be uncomfortable but these definitely are uncomfortable for longer uses. If you will be using it sparingly for short periods of time these will do, but if you are planning on gaming or working with these on for hours on end, just know these are mighty uncomfortable and you will probably have to take them off after a few hours.”

Most users have given favorable reviews on Plantronics backbeat pro 2, indicating that it is a good workout headphone. However, it is not without its shortcomings. Its on-ear design makes it uncomfortable and muggy after wearing for a long time. You can't avoid sweating during workout, but this earphone has poor waterproof performance. If you use it for a long time in workout, its earmuffs may be damaged. Therefore, if you expect to find headphones for the workout with more comfortable wearing experience and more durable in the market, Wissonly Hi Runner sports bone conduction headphone are a good recommendation.
