“I previously used a "in the ear" waterproof MP3 headset that worked well, but unfortunately I came down with an ear infection and had to start using earplugs. This headset works better than I expected, especially when used with the supplied earplugs. Getting podcasts onto the device is a little cumbersome (at least on a Mac). I downloaded Podcast Archiver and that was a big help.”

“Ok so I've owned quite a few waterproof mp3 players in my life - waterproof Walkman, waterproof shuffle, syren, finis swimp3, and for the last few years, the ol'reliable finis duos - but this week I ordered the Shokz Xtrainerz/openswim and oh my god what a monumental diffrence!

With the Duo, I often manually reprocess the audio to normalize volume and do some freq eq to hear some podcasts/audiobooks clearly. With the openswim, not only do you not need to do that bc of the built in swim mode, but the audio quality/volume is better than in-ear types.

There are only 2 issues:

1. Like the Sony's, the neck band is too long for most people. Even with long hair + cap, it juts out enough that you'll ocassionally bump it with your deltoids which is more annoying than anything else. Fix is easy, just pull it up with strap or cap.

2. Damn thing can't rewind or fast forward within a track, so you can't fast forward through an ads or intro/recap or rewind and relisten if you missed a beat because the damn thing was designed for music and not long podcasts and oral arguments but alas.”

“These bad boys far exceeded my expectations and then some! I mean you can barely feel them on your head, which can be a little disconcerting, i tried them for the first time today, but i didn't have the confidence to try them without a swim cap on, however that is purely down to how ridiculously light they are.

You put them on not really sure what to expect, tap the button to turn them on then tap the other button to turn on swimming mode, i didnt really notice much difference until i stuck my head in the water and then BOOOM the magic happens. Its louder with your head in the water than out! Having music to swim to increased my timing and speed. With their design you don't need to worry about ear buds falling out your ears, or music being too muffled from the waterproofing. You could easily listen to a podcast on these things. I am absolutely in love with these.

There is a downside that you can't use the likes of play music/itunes on here and there is no bluetooth (which doesn't really work with water anyway) you connect to your computer with usb cable and drag and drop mp3's into the folder. I discovered loads of mp3's in my amazon music account from previous cd's etc i'd bought.

Are they pricey? Absolutely. But oh my days i can't describe how fantastic these little things are. If you get the opportunity and feel the urge (and are a regular swimmer bored to tears swimming laps) you really should buy them. You won't regret it!”

“I have owned two different models of SHOKZ headphones. One of them has been replaced twice under warranty. Now, the latest replacement has broken and the warranty is expired. In each case, they broke as shown in the photo.

Until they broke, I loved them. They fit comfortably, store tons of music and podcasts, have good sound, and are waterproof so I can wear them running in any weather.

The problem is that there is a weak point in their manufacture and after a year or so of use, they break. The company quickly replaces them as long as the warranty lasts. But, after the original two year warranty ends, they will likely break again and then it is another $150 for a new pair to start the cycle all over.

I have also found that some of the ones I have owned have started to show bubbling and peeling of the rubberized coating on the ends that rest on the temples. If they didn't break and the peeling continued, I suspect that the waterproof integrity would be compromised.

I have now bought a less expensive brand. Even if they only last a year or so, at least I spent less on them.”

“It is essential to know why you are buying this headset. There is no connectivity, and you need to have MP3 files to add to the high storage capacity of the headset and then, holey mother... I discover swimming again. People who are addicted to music (like I am) and waking up do not happen until the music starts; going swimming was not fun. Every different Bluetooth headset that I got (waterproof ...) stopped and started when my head went underwater. So annoying. and then AfterShokz Xtrainerz came along... I can not explain the joy, the depth of music and only leave you with this sentence. If you are a swimmer, you MUST try this. Of course, it is an excellent choice; however, underwater, it is the only logical choice.”

“After buying 4 of the Syrnn MP3 players I decided to give this a try. I hate the Christmas tree headphones that come with the other type of waterproof swimming players. They really bother my ears. This one IS PERFECT. I don’t understand how it works without being in my ears but it totally works. I’ve had it now for a month and I swim laps at least an hour every second day. It has been perfect. Our library uses overdrive which has MP3 audiobooks. That is what I download to use while swimming. I’m sorry I didn’t buy one of these years ago.”

“I've been using waterproof headphones for over ten years in our swim/spa. Started out with Finis SwimP3 bone conduction unit, twice. Good units but would only last a couple of years. Then tried an in-ear style. Terrible, wouldn't properly seal. Went back to bone conduction with Tayogo. Another good unit, but also only lasted a couple of years. Tried a very inexpensive one. Terrible; sent it back. Then spent the big bucks to get this AfterShokz Xtrainerz. So far I am very impressed. Best battery life of any I've owned, and superb sound quality, as well as a very durable and comfortable design. I highly recommend it.”

“Writing this review after my 2nd pair is starting to fail.

The item fits very well and easy to use. Song transfer is a breeze. Sound volume could be louder and thats where things crumble..

The issue ive been having is one side will stop functioning. The first one had one side completely go out. They sent me a 2nd pair, free of charge, and now, this one is going out.

I reached out and inquired that perhaps there is an updated version, as this model fails too easily for someone that wears it for 4.5 hours a week, less than a year, just in the gym. No swimming. Ill even pay an upcharge.

They provided me with 10% discount code for the same model. Apparently this model specifically is the only one with the built in mp3 player, of which i require.

$15 off a failed proven 2x model earns the 2 stars.

I see other products on Amazon now, a fraction of this one's cost. If i am going to get burned again, at least it wont be as pricey/risky.”
