Best in-ear Bluetooth earbuds:Skullcandy mod true earbuds review

Nov 28,2023 | David

The Skullcandy Mod in-ear Bluetooth earbuds are the company’s latest affordable, no-frills entry. The pair succeeds on several fronts, with powerful bass depth, strong battery life, and a water-resistant design. One of those new features is the Clear Voice Smart Mic technology that utilises artificial intelligence to reduce background noise and isolate the speaker’s voice on calls, for clear voice quality. There’s also an adjustable Stay-Aware mode to help users change the amount of noise they can hear for awareness of what is around them. And they feature built-in Tile technology, so users can ‘ring’ either earbud for their last known location in case they go missing. Water resistance is a tough IP55 to protect against sweat, dust and water. So what is the actual sense of use? This article collected some real reviews from users to give you an answer.

“When I ordered these the first time, they got lost in the mail. I talked to the Harmon support team and they sent out a new pair right away. It got to me within 2 days which was fantastic (I still haven't received the originals). The earbuds are super comfortable and don't fall out of your ears. I love using mine for bicycle rides and running. They are semi-noise cancelling so you do have to be careful about having them both in around traffic. They also have a bit of intermittent bluetooth connection occasionally, so you might have to adjust which pocket your phone is in. Overall though, they are amazing earbuds. I've been a skullcandy fan for a while and these will only encourage my love of the company.”

“I bought these for my wife for when she's out walking our dog and for the most part she really likes them. The sound is good and they stay in her ear comfortably. The only issue is that they do seem to lose or drop the bluetooth connection to her iPod Nano more than once during an hour plus walk. She says they reconnect so she's not bothered by it but that issue keeps me from giving these earbuds five stars.”

“I have purchaseseveral wired/wireless Skullcandy earphones because they are the overall best value brand. Bought these to replace the EVO model as they were losing volume drastically.
These Mods' have more clarity albeit seems Skullcandy is less bass forward than previous models. These pair easier and range seems further. These have short stubby inner ear piece and you really have to struggle to get them inserted to where you get the best fit for best quality of sound.
Until earbud brands increase the range and sound equalization generally; I have resolved to place value over price. Skull candies are the best overall value.”

“I'm not a very demanding Audiophile but these headphones pleasantly surprised me, I was going to return them if they didn't convince me but Wow I'll keep them if or if, I had bought these because before some Bluetooth headphones had broken down and these actually saved my skin, without a doubt recommended, if you ask, it fits the ear very well, they don't fall out with the movement of my head or when talking or eating, they're very excellent and watch out!!! Something that if I don't like it but I let it go is that the headset is a button and it's not Touch, it bothers me a little since I'm used to pressing softly and it pauses or the next song plays but meh, I'm content with it being listened to with mother haha.

You know Skullcandy, the best brand on the hearing aid market”

“Two features that deserve praise with the Mod ear buds I recently purchased.
The feature STAY-AWARE MODE is useful to be able to monitor your surroundings while you’re using the earbuds, you can hear things nearby without having to remove an earbud.
The second feature is the addition of gaining handsfree cell for your phone use without having bluetooth in your vehicle. (ie, older vehicles without the latest radio w/bluetooth or airplay technology). Most add-on accessories are bulky and have poorly designed clips and holders which presents a driver safety hazard. All you need to do is touch a bud, answering the incoming call without taking your eyes off the road. THIS is a BIG deal to eliminate distractions. A valuable feature while driving.”

“These are very capable ear buds. Not a lot of bass but the over-all treble and midrange frequencies are adequate enough for your music to be heard clearly. Build quality is exactly what you would expect from a mid-tier Bluetooth ear bud offering; they're sturdy and I don't see them breaking anytime soon. The Bluetooth connection to my iPhone is quite good. The range is a lot better than expected. I can stay on a phone call while walking out of my office and down the hallway of my office building and nearly out the door. That's about 100 feet or so, very good range. The battery life is really good as well in my testing. I can get a full day at work after using these heavily for support calls, music, and video. Pairing these ear buds is very easy and they connected flawlessly to my Mac, Windows, Android, and IOS devices with no issues on any platform. USB C charging is always nice to see as that has become a major component in my purchasing decision when it comes to adding new tech. If you're looking for a great set of ear buds that have good sound quality and will last you all day and then some then I think you will enjoy these.”

“The Skullcandy Mod True Wireless Earbuds are good little sound machines with a few aggravations.
The cool features are being able to get paired with multiple devices. I paired mine to phone -Pixel 6pro, Table - Samsung Tab A-8, and my desktop pc with built in bluetooth. While rated to pair to 2 devices, I was able to pair mine to these 3.
Sound quality is pretty good for what it is, and I would argue superior to others in this price range.
The app is easy to use and allows you to customize the sound, though it leans more to the bass side of the sound spectrum. At louder volumes the bass can make voices seem a bit muddled.
Call quality is good, and you are able to use just 1 or the other if you need an ear open and unobstructed.
Play time was excellent. Rated at 7 hours of battery life, I can say they last at least 5 with no problems. Charging for 10 minutes is supposed to give you a couple more hours.
The gripes are:
The aforementioned bass quality, but then again these aren't $200 headphones.
Fit for me was not good and I had trouble keeping them in my ears during light activity. My GF tried them out and had no issues, so fit may vary.”

“I bought Skullcandy Mod, it has a nice quality sound.

It fits very nicely in the ear, I haven't done any rigorous movement yet in it though.

Skullcandy Mod
Pros
▪️Multi point connection - can connect to 2 devices at once
▪️Can customize inputs i.e. 2 taps for skip or volume up, pause and so on intuitive indeed
▪️ supported on app
▪️Turns off automatically in charging case
▪️Can find headphones on Til
▪️Headphones can be used solo and doesn't hinder usage much

Cons
▪️Button albiet versatile in terms of custom they are pretty tough and require more pressue than I would like but doesn't mean can accidentally change or pause
▪️The charging case is huge

Possible con, not sure if my phone or not but when connecting to my S7 it seems to have a issue when in my pocket, it cuts out like it is skipping. On my S10, seems to be better.

It is rated ip55, which is great for protection.”

“Unboxing the case didn’t have a expensive feel, at this price point its expected. This is my second pair of Skullcandy earbuds, I like the brand because the sound quality is pretty good for what its being used for, such as working out and anything that requires sweating or working outside.

Like all Bluetooth electronics the pairing was very easy and simple, the buds charged so I was able to try them out immediately. The fit was pretty good out of the box without any adjustments needed to the ear pad. I tested them out for a couple of weeks now for working out and meetings. Voice quality is solid and clear during my meetings. Working out they stayed in the ears without falling out, the music quality was pretty good, clear and vibrant sounding, the bass was nice and balanced even at high volume. The earbuds were easy to clean after a workout and never sounded muffled.

The battery life outlasts my more expensive earbuds which is why I think these are great pair even though they don’t have noise cancelling the snug fit does help keep some of the environmental noise out.

Overall, if you are looking for a great sounding earbud to use for work and play this is a great one at a very reasonable price point.”

“So I returned them. I tried using the different sizes of silicon tips but no matter what they just keep falling out, sometimes even when I was chilling on the couch (as opposed to working out). Also kept randomly having audio distorts and jumps when my phone was lying right next to me. Also! Having the play/pause button in the center of the earbud makes you push it further into your ear which is kind of annoying.”

In the user reviews of Skullcandy mod true earbuds, most of them are favorable reviews, with a total score of 4.3 out of 5. Its various functions basically satisfy users and are affordable. Because of the good sound quality and noise cancelling function of mod eearbuds, it can be called a necessary earbuds for office, commuting and so on. But if it is used in sports, it may not be so suitable. Because mod earbuds is in-ear design, it is easy to make the ears uncomfortable when worn for a long time, not to mention when exercising. And if you use it during exercise, you may need to keep putting it in your ear to adjust it, or even drop it on the ground carelessly. Therefore, if you are a person who likes sports, it is necessary to prepare a second pair of headphones for sports. There are several factors in choosing sports headphones: comfortable and stable wearing, good waterproof performance and durability, such as Wissonly Hi Runner bone conduction headphones.

Wissonly Hi Runner, a bone conduction type headphone, directly transmits music from the cheek to the ear canal, allowing external sounds to be heard simultaneously, enhancing safety. It also alleviates the discomfort of wearing headphones and provides a sense of presence to the sound. One of the most practical features of the Wissonly Hi Runner is its powerful waterproof function, enabling it to be used for swimming without affecting music playback.

Wissonly's bone conduction headphones utilize cutting-edge technology, boasting excellent sound isolation and reducing sound leakage by 90%. While not completely soundproof, in my experience, in environments like the gym where it's not completely silent, sound leakage is almost non-existent.

Hi Runner meets the IPX8 waterproof standard, currently one of the highest waterproof capabilities available. This headphone can even be used for swimming, reaching depths of up to 20 meters underwater. So, for daily workouts, there's no need to worry about sweat causing leakage or damage. It features convenient and hygienic magnetic suction charging, with a battery capacity of 230mAh, offering up to 10 hours of continuous use on a full charge.

The headphones have three support points that adhere to the skull: the temple, the earlobe, and the back of the head. This design ensures stability, preventing them from falling off during workouts. The built-in titanium alloy frame is adjustable for the most suitable angle. The entire body of the device is made of soft, skin-friendly material, and weighing just 27g, it won't be a burden even during extended wear.

Hi Runner is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 technology, providing stable connections. Compared to Bluetooth 4.2, Bluetooth 5.0 offers a wider coverage range and faster data transfer rates, with a maximum effective distance of up to 300 meters and a maximum transmission rate of 24Mbps. Additionally, given its positioning as swim-friendly headphones, even underwater, Bluetooth can be used with an effective connection distance of 15 meters. During our workouts, we often switch between different exercise equipment, and it can be inconvenient to pick up our phones with sweaty hands. This is where Hi Runner's MP3 mode comes in handy. Besides Bluetooth connectivity for music playback, it has built-in memory that allows you to download music for use as an MP3 player. With 32GB of internal memory, it can store over 5000 songs, accommodating all your favorites.
